Mother Smiling While Holding Her Two Children

For Parents

The American Academy of Pediatrics as well as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry encourages parents to establish a dental home for their child by the age of 12 months. This dental “well baby check” not only gives the parent a place for comprehensive oral care and for treatment of dental emergencies, but it also encourages the formation of a relationship between the parent, child, and dentist.

It is our goal to make every visit a positive experience! Our entire team excels at putting children at ease, and we are committed to creating a fun environment for every child.

How To Prepare Your Child

As a parent, we tend to get nervous about the visiting the dentist too! The best way to prepare your child for their first visit is to have a positive attitude and not to show your own personal apprehensions around your child.

We encourage you to talk to your child about their upcoming visit and educate them on the importance of keeping his/her teeth and gums healthy. Showing pictures doctors and staff members from this website can help familiarize and reduce fears or anxiety.

Again, it is our goal to make every visit to Hawthorne Kids Dentistry a positive experience! Our entire team will do everything possible to assure you children are put at ease. We are committed to you and your child having the most positive experience at our office.

Preventative Dentistry

Teeth Cleaning

The benefits of routine Teeth Cleanings (prophylaxis) for infants, young children and adolescents is numerous. Keeping teeth free of plaque helps minimize the risk of gum disease, tooth decay and other major dental problems. At Hawthorne Kid’s Dentistry we tailor each treatment plan to fit our patients needs.

Fluoride Varnishing

When used in addition to brushing, Fluoride Varnish provides extra protection against cavities. A member of our dental team applies the quick setting and pleasant tasting fluoride gel to the teeth. The gel penetrates the tooth enamel thereby hardening and protecting it. This helps to prevent new cavities from forming.

Dental Sealants (BPA Free)

A highly effective option to preventing dental decay is Dental Sealants. Dental Sealants are a safe and effective very thin plastic coating that is painted to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (the molars and premolars) and can help avert tooth decay for an average of 5 to 7 years. At Hawthorne Kid’s Dentistry we only use BPA free dental sealant.

Custom Tailored Prevention Plan & Instruction

At Hawthorne Kid’s Dentistry we believe in providing our young patients with a prevention plan that is fully customized to their individual needs. Each plan is created to help ensure the optimal health of your child’s teeth and jaws. We also provide oral hygiene instruction so your child can benefit from proper dental care at home.

Aesthetic Procedures

Composite Teeth Bonding For Children

If your child has teeth that are chipped or cracked, they may be a candidate for Composite Teeth Bonding. Composite Bonding is the technique of shaping and molding a resin material on the damaged tooth to restore it to its natural strength, size and appearance. At Hawthorne Kid’s Dentistry we take pride in helping your child to attain the most healthy and beautiful smile possible.

White Spot Lesions

White Spot Lesion Treatment

Poor oral hygiene or orthodontic treatment can result in Enamel Decalcification or what is also known as White Spot Lesions. Some White Spot Lesions may not require treatment if caught at an early stage and damage is minimal. However, some White Spot Lesions may need repair, and if left untreated can develop into cavities. Depending on the severity of damage, treatment may range from Fluoride Varnishing to Composite Teeth Bonding.

Behavior Management

Treatment For Children With Dental Anxiety

Visiting the dentist can be a scary experience for anyone, especially young children. Our caring pediatric dentists and staff are committed to making your child’s visit as comfortable and non-threating as possible. We have a variety of techniques and experience that can help reduce your child’s fears and help him/her become accustomed to going to the dentist.

Diagnostic Dentistry

Routine Oral Evaluation

Regular evaluations are an important part of maintaining your child’s optimum oral health. During the Oral Evaluation process our pediatric dentist examines your child’s teeth and gums to make sure they are healthy. Attention is also given to the facial structures and jaw to ensure normal development.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists recommends Oral Evaluations be scheduled for children twice per year. The first visit should occur within 6 months of the first milk tooth erupting or by age one.

Digital Dental X-Rays

For the comfort of our young patients, Hawthorne Kids Dentistry uses digital radiography (x-rays) for screening teeth. Taking regular x-rays of your child’s teeth allows us to evaluate and diagnose their continually growing & changing mouths. Children are also more prone to developing cavities and therefore may need more x-rays than adults.

Growth and Development Dental Evaluation

In addition to screening teeth, a Growth and Development Dental Evaluation are imperative to make sure your child’s teeth and jaws are developing with normalcy. It can help with early detection of teeth and jaw misalignment or abnormalities with jaw growth.

A nice dental office built around kids. Couldn't really ask for much more when my son needs a check up. We've been coming here for years now, and they are consistently amazing!

- Scott T. Hawthorne, NJ

Hawthorne Kids Dentistry is a great pediatric dental office to have nearby. My child was experiencing a horrible toothache a few weeks ago, and Dr. Sikder saw my eight year old the same day. Thank you Hawthorne Kids Dentistry!
